Home Security That Makes Sense

Home security can either feel like a useful, sensible upgrade or like a salesman's pitch designed to scare you into paying for things you do not need. We sit firmly on the sensible side of that line. Most homes in Middlesbrough do not need a fully-monitored alarm system with a £40-a-month subscription; they need a proper outside light, a video doorbell, two CCTV cameras and a decent set of locks on the doors that actually get used. We are happy to provide that pragmatic level of security and let you decide whether you want to go further.

Insurance is the other consideration. Some insurers offer discounts for properties with approved alarm systems, video CCTV and visible deterrents. We are happy to discuss what your policy requires and to fit equipment that genuinely qualifies. For most households, however, the security improvements that make the biggest practical difference are the simplest and cheapest ones, and that is the work we are best placed to help with.

Security Work We Carry Out

We focus on visible-deterrent and surveillance equipment that is reliable, not gimmicky, and that will keep working five years from now without requiring a subscription to keep using. Our typical week includes a mix of camera installations, doorbell upgrades, motion lights, alarm-system fitting and lock changes.

  • Wired and wireless CCTV camera systems
  • Video doorbells (Ring, Nest, Eufy and similar)
  • Outdoor motion-sensor floodlights
  • Alarm system installation (visible-bell and bell-only types)
  • Window and door locks, including British Standard kitemark replacements
  • Multi-point lock replacement on uPVC doors
  • Lock changes after a house move or lost key
  • Smart locks with keyless entry and code pads
  • Garage door locks and security upgrades
  • Shed and outbuilding security
  • Door spy holes and chain locks
  • Window restrictors for upper-floor windows

CCTV and Video Doorbells

Modern CCTV is utterly different from the systems of fifteen years ago. Today's domestic cameras give crisp, full-colour 4K video, with infrared night vision that genuinely sees in the dark, and they store the footage on local memory cards or a small recorder rather than relying on a paid cloud subscription. We fit complete systems with two to eight cameras, integrated with the home's broadband router so you can check the feeds from your mobile wherever you are. Cable runs are tidy, drilled through walls properly with weather-seal grommets, not strapped to the brickwork. The recorder is hidden in a discreet location with battery back-up.

Video doorbells are a smaller, simpler upgrade and they punch well above their weight. The single biggest benefit is being able to see and speak to whoever is at the door without revealing whether you are home or not. We fit any major brand, hardwire them to your existing doorbell circuit where possible, and configure the apps to work reliably with your wifi. Modern doorbells also store recordings, which is genuinely useful when, for instance, a courier claims to have left a parcel and the camera shows otherwise.

Locks and Door Security

The most underrated security upgrade in any home is a properly specified door lock. Many uPVC doors fitted in the 1990s and 2000s have multi-point locks that no longer meet modern security standards, particularly the British Standard 3621 kitemark that insurers often require. We replace these for modern equivalents that meet current TS 007 anti-snap standards. For traditional timber doors, we fit British Standard mortice locks, deadlocks and night latches, and we are happy to advise on the right combination for your particular doors.

Lock changes after moving house are quick, cheap and an obvious sensible precaution: you genuinely do not know who else has a copy of the previous owners' keys. We can usually fit replacements within a day of a request, and we keep a stock of common cylinder sizes on the van.

Pricing and Coverage

Security work is quoted on a job-by-job basis depending on the equipment and number of fixings. We supply equipment at trade cost and charge labour at our standard hourly rate, so there are no inflated 'security pricing' premiums. Free quotes available; we cover the whole of Teesside.
