Roofing Work for Middlesbrough Homes

A leaking roof is one of the most expensive things that can happen to a home, because by the time the leak shows on a ceiling the underlying problem is usually well advanced and the damage to insulation, joists and plaster has been quietly accumulating for weeks or months. Most of our roofing work is on pitched roofs with concrete or clay tiles, although we also work on flat roofs (felt, EPDM rubber and GRP fibreglass), slated roofs in older terraces, and the increasing number of single-ply membrane roofs used on modern extensions. We never undertake work that needs a height-trained roofer with full scaffold access where this is genuinely required: very tall properties, complex multi-level roofs and certain pitched-roof rebuilds need specialist setup. We do, however, undertake the bulk of normal domestic roof maintenance and repair using either ladder access for quick repairs or scaffold towers for larger jobs.

Flat Roofs and Modern Roof Membranes

Flat roofs have a poor reputation that is mostly inherited from the cheap three-layer felt roofs of the 1970s and 1980s. Modern materials are far better. EPDM rubber roofs, fitted in a single seamless sheet, can be expected to last 30 to 50 years with no maintenance other than keeping them clear of leaf debris. GRP fibreglass roofs are similarly durable and have the advantage of looking smart and seamless. We fit both, and we are happy to advise on which is appropriate for your particular flat-roof situation. For older felt roofs that are still serviceable, we can repair them effectively for many years more, but we will be honest with you about whether a repair or a replacement is the better economic choice.

Fascias, Soffits and Bargeboards

The white plastic boards along the eaves and gable ends of most modern houses are doing more work than they look. They cover and protect the rafter ends, they form the surface to which the gutters are fixed, and on the underside they ventilate the loft to prevent condensation. Replacing tired wooden fascias with modern uPVC equivalents is a common job we carry out, and the difference in maintenance is immediate: no more painting every five years and no more rotted timber needing patching.
